My podcast

In this blog, my topic is focusing on the discussion of the possibilities and risks of social media as an active influencer for social change.

First, I introduced the rapid development of social media technology and the change in the way people socialize. Then I mentioned the benefits of using social media as a tool to spread information and awareness. I researched various social activities using my social media account, and I was surprised to find that many sports are using social media to spread information. In my podcast, I focus on the campaign against sexual harassment and sexual assault #MeToo. After digging into the sport, I really understood the value of social media in the field of activism but in the process of research, I also found some disadvantages. For example, topic survival time is too short, and it will be forgotten after a period of time. In order to get more information for the podcast, I also researched through academic resources and other materials.

I was mainly focused on digging the best understanding with the different topics and research on various journals and blogs in the process of creating and completing the podcast.

Reading from different resources have helped enrich my own experiences. I reorganized the key terms and conditions that I had acquired in my research and I found that this information could strongly support my argument. More importantly, the blog that I created, and my other social media accounts have helped me understand what is really happening in the world and what is running to make these things to be happening. Especially these days the world and the society develop very quickly so that things could change easily. With the help of resources from various platforms, I noticed that both the limitations and advantages of using the social media which could really help to make things and people change. Finally, all of these resources helped me to share my own understanding by blogs or other social media.

In the process of making a podcast, I encountered some problems. First of all, my time was too long, and as an international student, my speaking was not very good. When I was giving a lecture, I was always slow. I didn’t know how to pronounce some words. When I tried to record for the first time, it took a total of 8 minutes, so I reduced a part of the speech and practiced the content repeatedly. In addition, I found that using a computer’s microphone is not easy to use, so I switched to using a mobile phone to record. Using a mobile phone to record makes my voice sound clearer and no noise. My podcast content is divided into several segments to record and recorded separately Easier to edit.

After recording the podcast, I started looking for music. I found it difficult to find the right music, and the copyright issue needed attention. After I browsed the SoundCloud, I found that a lot of music is licensed for Creative Commons and has the correct Creative Commons. I can use them, so I added them to my podcast.

In terms of editing, I use Premier for editing. This is not my first use of this software. I have used it so it is not difficult for me. I edited the duration of my recorded podcast and adjusted the volume to add music. Upload and upload to SoundCloud.

Through this task, I had the opportunity to make a podcast alone, which was a challenge for me. I also learned some experience and knowledge in this experience. Now, I have a deeper understanding of activism and social media.

Online identity

In today’s era, people’s lives are more and more inseparable from social media. People often share their lives and express their opinions on social media. While enjoying a good life, they also help the development of social media. In the past, if people wanted to connect with each other, they could only write letter, call and meet. Now the rapid development of social media, we can easily connect with each other and share life with each other. Some social software is convenient, and they are often used by people, such as Facebook, Twitter, WeChat and Weibo.

I don’t often share my daily life on Twitter. The role I created for myself is a student at Deakin college. I shared some simple personal and academic information, and I will not show my inner thoughts and emotions to strangers.

This is a photo I shared on Twitter. It was found on the website of creative commons. This website provides a good platform for people to share pictures (Luttrell, 2014). In the previous weeks of learning, I also learned that when sharing pictures of others, I need to pay attention to copyright.

This is a link to Aboutme that I posted on Twitter. Aboutme is a social media that can simply describe myself. In Aboutme, I describe myself as a student studying in Melbourne and expressed my interest in cats, shopping and movies, which allows people to get to know me quickly, and the site can also connect with twitter and Blog, allowing people to quickly access several of my other social media sites.

Social media encourages people to actively participate in the sharing and exchange of topics, making traditional single communication a two-way communication. In social media, people can approach each other through the same interests, form a stable group after understanding each other, and carry out continuous exchanges to make people closer. But I have to say that social media also has some disadvantages. The content published by social media is visible to anyone, with almost no restrictions on blocking, except for a small amount of protected content. When we register for an account and share life, our private Information is exposed through the network.

In China, the most popular social App is WeChat (Gan, 2017). People use WeChat to contact family and friends, and also share their lives through WeChat. WeChat has a lot of functions, it is convenient for our lives. In China, when we bind a bank card to WeChat, we can pay everything through WeChat. You don’t need to bring cash and a bank card when you go out, just a mobile phone. In China, more than two-thirds of people use WeChat payment instead of cash. WeChat payment is very popular. When I returned home during the holidays, I was surprised that people were using WeChat payment extensively. WeChat also has a very interesting feature, which is ‘red envelopes’. During various festivals, we often send ‘red envelopes’ to our family and friends, which means passing luck.

WeChat is very similar to Instagram. They both have multi-purpose messaging capabilities so that people can chat, but in my opinion, WeChat can better protect our privacy, because if you are not friends of each other, you can’t comment on their posts and you cannot view their details. when we need to add friends, Not only add friends using mobile number and WeChat ID, but also use our QR code, Scan QR code to add friends is a very convenient way. Using WeChat can make quick phone calls or video calls. When I was a kid, social media was not developed. I could only contact family and friends through meeting or calling, but since WeChat was created, it has facilitated my daily life.

In the social media applications, I design my own personal homepage, including my avatar, photos, and background. The background I use in WeChat is the photo I took. The photo was taken in the Forbidden City in Beijing because I am from Beijing. The Forbidden City is one of the most famous buildings in Beijing, which makes sense to me. My avatar uses my own photo, so everyone can find me quickly.

I often publish the landscapes I take during my travels, my selfies, the food I have eaten and my cat in WeChat and ins, , but in ins I will only show A small part of myself, I always attract more likes and attention through beautiful photos and beautiful selfies, because I don’t want to show my detailed private life to strangers, but I often share my daily life and mood when using WeChat, because I only added my family and friends in WeChat, Sharing daily life and expressing opinions on WeChat also allows family and friends to know the real me. WeChat is a very good App, I think everyone can download one.

online identity is like new faces for us, we use it to meet new friends online with it, Online identity is a part of people’s life. in China we use an app call Wechat is Whatsapp but much better, Wechat is one of the most popular social medias of all(Yu 2017, pp.9). It is a new platform for people to shortening the distance with each other and a new mode of communication. not like the old days, when you meet someone is going to take while, but in nowadays all you need to do is open facetime.

People on the internet represent their online identity in different purposes, one of the example is to find a date through online dating. They should use their real identity, but some people usually decided to use their fake identity to trick people. The most important aspect is self-presentation and it’s believed as a crucial part of building media presence. They present themselves to be someone else or their creativity, if people want to find a date through online dating they should be more careful because it might be dangerous.
